in the source .adoc is passed unchanged to the rendered .tex. 
(We replace \[ by +\[ in the preprocessor when it occurs
at the beginnng of a line and likewise for the other bracket).

Map \( .. \) back to $ ... $ in the postprocessor when converting to LaTeX.
